Would you just buying Sniper upgrade for one single Sniper or upgraded Rifle for 3 Ranger and 1 Specialists? the answer is clear. It's all about overall damage per turn you can do. Playing XCOM isn't about one shot something. Until you get Spider Suit or something with Hook, in the end I prefer EXO or WAR because destroying covers and reduce alien's armor benefits everyone on your squad unlike that suit with hook which only make Sniper looks like a Hero. First they can't shoot when they move, you simply are forced to waste a few turn to have a very high successful shot, it's not give you such benefit in the long run, when Sniper moves, your squad lose advantage. Sniper on the other hand has very good aim progression but their restriction make them less useful than you think. But I prefer Rifle Ranger most of time because focusing on point blank alien all the time really not an option. They don't need any weapon mod early game to reach such RNG breaker position. You can't really point-blank all the time but if you want to argue who have the best aim progression, Ranger shotgun simply wins ( And I don't even talk about Phantom Ranger Shadow Strike with Shotgun ). Actually Ranger is the first class that can have 100% aim on Alien, but it has to be point-blank with shotgun. Not good with tip and anything but I have a few things to share. I'm not sure that there's much to be gained from an exchange that looks this combative though, so it might be best to just keep it all in one place, eh? Personally I tend to use rookies there (and out of 30 odd tries via various campaigns and experiments I've yet to see one without high ground). I'm also not really convinced by talking about sharpshooters on gatecrasher. Both occur more than early game grenadiers, specialists or psi ops having reliable 100% shots. I'm not sure there's much opinion involved, but sure, if people disagree, that's fine. You just got finished expressing it here: where I've gone to the trouble of going through all your points in a lot of detail.įor the record when I'm talking about reliability I'm assessing how often the situation of "alien not in blue move+shotgun range" arises compared to how often "there's easily accessible high ground" arises.
