I played quite a bit of it when it was in beta and I played quite a bit now that it's out and I never got a single absurd moment, nothing weird ever happened. Previously, you could lose a fort to a civil war caused by a sock shortage. The absurdity caused by the randomness is what makes it interesting. The fun in dorf fort isn't the actual gameplay or the extreme details. My main issue with it is that it tried to be Dwarf Fortress, but fundamentally misunderstood what makes Dwarf Fortress fun. I just like to play random short games and see how i do, or i just turn on debug mode and spam lightning on a bunch of manhunting beavers.

I accidentally made a ship last -ht thinking "hey if i make a ship, that'll make gathering supplies easier, right?" and nope, it just ended the game.Ĭompared to dwarf fortress i guess its not as good- but i never could get into DF, and i always had a bad taste in my mouth about it ever since i was playing a game and all a guy would log in to talk about was dwarf fortress to the point it got annoying. a lot of the game is revolved around luck, or you could just go to the Options setting and turn on Debug mode and make w.e village you want. Don't think i'm saying the game is perfect, its rough around the edges, but i find it nice to play for a few hours when i'm bored.
